Marsha Ellen Spurgon, 80, of Marion, passed away at 5:25 pm on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in Marion. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on April 5, 1944, to Weldon Manuel and Ruth Augusta (Ivens) Dungey.
Marsha attended Marion Community Schools and was a housekeeper with the Marion VA Healthcare System for 25 years before her retirement. She also dedicated her time to working at the Mission and the Women’s Shelter.
Marsha was passionate about arts and crafts and took great pride in decorating her home. She enjoyed singing, especially karaoke with her son, Terry. Marsha was an excellent cook, known for her homemade potato salad, chicken and dumplings, and brownies. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherishing her family and maintaining an immaculate home for them. Marsha will be remembered as a loving, strong-willed, and humorous woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline (Kyle, Sr.) Goodwin of Louisville, KY; sons, Kevin (Janice) Spurgon and Chad E. Spurgon, both of Marion; grandchildren, Danielle, Jamesisha, Dominick, Natecia, Kyle, Jr., J’Kina, Kyleisha, Kameron, Brittany, Devin, Jalon, Nyaa, Tyshaun, Mylisse, and Bryanna; several great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Ann Jones; brother, William L. Gulliford; special nieces, E. Teresa Davis and Melissa (DeVol) Tyson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon Manuel Dungey and Ruth Augusta Gulliford; sons, Terry Dungey and James Carter, Jr.; sisters, Donna Strons, Phyllis Dungey, Gladys Bryant, Mary E. Simmons, and LeeAnn Richardson; and brothers, Paul Dungey and Paul J. Gulliford.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Trinity Victory Baptist Church, 2001 S. Gallatin St., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Marsha’s life will begin at 12:00 noon with Rev. Stanford Bolden officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
