Martha Jane Scholar, 90, of Marion, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:01 am on Sunday, February 2, 2025, in Marion. She was born in Wabash, Indiana, on Saturday, December 15, 1934, to Kent and Treva (Mylin) Baker. On June 2, 1956, she married her loving husband, Robert J. Scholar. They shared 57 years together before he preceded her in death on September 27, 2013.
Martha graduated from Peru High School in 1954. She had worked at Lloyd’s Flower Shop and volunteered at Marion General Hospital, where she received the Volunteer of the Year award for Indiana. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion.
Martha enjoyed spending summers at her lake cottage at Beaver Dam Lake, where her father developed property. She was always there for her family and attended the events of her children and grandchildren whenever possible. She loved playing cards, fishing, and social activities in general. Martha was an outgoing, caring, and welcoming woman, who always wanted to feed and care for the people in her life.
Survivors include her son, Paul K. (Patti) Scholar of Colorado; daughter, Susan J. (late Scott) Morrow of Marion; granddaughters, Cassidy (Eric) Scholar-Knapp and Lauren Morrow; grandsons, Charles Scholar, Harrison Scholar, and Andrew Morrow; and great-granddaughter, Beretta Valkyrie Knapp.
In addition to her loving husband, Robert, Martha was preceded in death by her father, Kent E. Baker, and her mother, Treva L. Baker.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Martha’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Laura Marine officiating. Burial will take place at Laketon Cemetery in North Manchester, Indiana.
