Martha N. Thompson

Martha N. Thompson, a remarkable woman whose life was defined by unwavering dedication and service, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, at the age of eighty-two.  She was born on August 22, 1942, in Savanah, Tennessee.

Martha’s professional journey was notable.  She devoted forty-two years to the Dana Corporation in accounts payable, where her meticulous nature and strong work ethic earned her the respect of colleagues and superiors alike. Her career also included significant roles at the UAW hall and the Essex Wire office.  She also worked as a keypunch operator at Essex Wire Marion, Indiana and she worked at the Chrystal Laundry in Jonesboro, Indiana.

In addition to her remarkable career, Martha was a beacon of light within her community. A devoted member of Temple Congregational Church, she contributed her time and talents as a Women’s Deacon and served diligently as the Secretary/Treasurer of the church choir. Her involvement extended to the Women’s Fellowship Group and the Treasurer position of the Andrew Manor Neighborhood Association. She also lent her organizational skills to the Women’s Democrat Committee, the Dana Retirees’ Pension Program, the Mississinewa Boat and Ski Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of Marion Firefighters, and the YWCA. Martha’s service reflected her deep commitment to fostering community spirit and uplifting those around her.

Cherished by her family, Martha was the beloved wife of Paul Thompson Jr. for 62 years. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family that includes their son Paul (Janet) Thompson III, daughter Karen Floyd, and grandchildren Autumn (Peter Bridges) Floyd, Libby Floyd, Blake (Bayli Toy) Thompson, and Luke (Anne) Thompson. Additionally, she was a proud great-grandmother to Weston and Parker, who brought immeasurable joy to her later years.

Martha’s legacy will be forever intertwined with the memory of her parents, Marcus and Mallie Terry, and her siblings, Vernon Terry, Wilburn Terry, Thelma Horton, and Dorothy Abernathy, all of whom have preceded her in death. Their love and influence aided in shaping the extraordinary person she became.

A visitation will be held in her honor on November 15, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home in Marion, Indiana. A second visitation will follow on November 16, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Temple Congregational Church, leading into a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. Martha will be entombed at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.

As we reflect upon the life of Martha N. Thompson, we celebrate a woman whose contributions to her family, church, and community were immeasurable. Her spirit of kindness, commitment to service, and profound love for those around her remain a cherished legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
