Mildred Jean Davis Shannon

Mildred Jean Davis Shannon, aged 98, passed away on December 11, 2024, in Marion, IN. Born on February 1, 1926, to Virgil Raymond Davis and Billie Dexter Davis, Mildred lived a life marked by devotion to her family and community. Mildred graduated from Marion High School and went on to build a notable career, contributing her skills in various capacities. She worked at Marion National Bank and Old National Bank in Indianapolis as a bookkeeper before serving as a dietary supervisor at the Marion VA Hospital. Later, she dedicated 16 years to Marion Community Schools at Riverview as a lunch cashier, a role she cherished until her retirement. Beyond her professional life, Mildred volunteered with Marion General Hospital auxiliary. She was a past member of the Converse Order of Eastern Star, where she enjoyed the fellowship and community activities. She was a member of Brookhaven Wesleyan Church. Family was the cornerstone of Mildred’s world. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Leland Ray Shannon; her daughter, Rae Jean Shannon; her son, Bill Butler (Pam); seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Janice Sue Lowe Fetz, her son Michael Allen Smith, and her brother Charles R. Davis (Beverly). Mildred was affectionately known as “Aunt Jeanie” to her nieces and nephew Cleo Burgard, Chuck Davis (Darlene), and Cheryl Plummer (Jim), who cherished her love. Mildred was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, remembered for her warmth and generosity. Her legacy of kindness and dedication to her family and community will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be Saturday December 14, 2024, from Noon to 1:00 PM at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, 1202 W Kem Rd., Marion, Indiana 46952. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will take place following services at Grant Memorial Park, Marion.
