Milton Edward Weatherly, 93, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Born on October 31, 1931, in Marion, Indiana, to Andrew Weatherly and Elizabeth (Britt) Weatherly, Milton lived a life marked by faith, service, and dedication to his family and community.
Milton graduated from Marion High School in 1950 and earned his degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1973. On June 11, 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in Marion, Indiana, beginning a distinguished 20-year career. Milton proudly served his country during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring on July 1, 1971, at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska.
During his military service, Milton was a system analyst and manager at Offutt Air Force Base. A passionate bowler, he was a pillar of the Omaha Bowling Association, serving as its secretary and coaching at Offutt Air Force Base. Saturdays at the bowling alley with his children were among his greatest joys. Milton was a lifetime member of the United States Bowling Congress, VFW Post 60, and the Air Force Sergeants Association.
Milton married his beloved wife, Phyllis Weatherly, in 1958. Together, they raised five children: Willard Weatherly (Diane) of Marion, Indiana; Vanessa Marisett (Fred) of Omaha, Nebraska; Milton L. Weatherly of Sierra Vista, Arizona; Helen Henderson (Ramon) of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Faith Simusa (Foster) of Tulsa, Oklahoma. His sons, Willard and Milton L., followed in his footsteps by serving in the military.
A man of deep faith, Milton was an active member of the Eastern Nebraska Veteran Home Chapel. His wisdom, kindness, and unwavering dedication to serving others left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Weatherly, and his sisters, Frances Piatt, Carolyn Davis, and Judy Ellis.
He leaves behind four sisters, Florence Jones, Flora Lamb, Grace Reece, and Katrina Rogers; one brother, Andrew Weatherly Jr.; 16 grandchildren, Ginger Taylor, Fred Weatherly, Stacy Seller, William Carpenter (Rhonda), Tre’ Turner (Danielle), Tamera Marisett-Williams (Antjuan), LaTosha Johnson (Leonard), Cassaundra Marisett-Banks (Jonathan), Devaunté Weatherly (Rosa), Alicia Reeves (Maurice), Rache’ Henderson, Devyan Henderson, Anna Henderson, Dionne Henderson, Stephen Simusa (Jordan), and Briana Simusa; and numerous great-grandchildren and extended family members who will cherish his legacy.
A celebration of Milton’s life will begin at 10:30 am on Friday, January 24, 2025, with a visitation from 10:00 am to 10:30 am at Christ Temple, 1401 S. Adams St., Marion, IN 46953. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
Milton Edward Weatherly’s life was a testament to his devotion to God, family, and country. His steadfast character, loving heart, and impactful legacy will forever be cherished.
