WABASH, IN – The Metropolitan School District of Wabash County is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Chris Kuhn as the district’s new Superintendent, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Kuhn will assume the role following the retirement of current superintendent Mike Keaffaber. Dr. Kuhn has served as the district’s Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations since 2016.
Dr. Kuhn brings over 23 years of experience in education. His career began in Westfield, Indiana, as a Biology teacher and coach at Westfield Middle and High Schools. He later served as the Assistant Principal at Southwood Jr/Sr High School and as Principal at LaFontaine Elementary and Southwood Elementary, focusing on academic achievement and fostering a strong school culture.
Dr. Kuhn shared his enthusiasm for his new role: “I am honored and humbled to step into this position and continue serving MSDWC students, educators, and families. MSDWC has been more than a workplace—it’s been a family and a place that has afforded me the opportunity to grow as a person and leader. I look forward to supporting our talented educators, mentoring school leaders, and collaborating with the community to help our students discover and achieve their passion and potential as they prepare for their futures.”
In addition to his work in education, Dr. Kuhn is an active member of several professional organizations and boards, including the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP), the Wabash Rotary Club, the Wabash YMCA, and the Indiana Association of School Business Officials (IASBO) where he was recently named Indiana Region 5 School Business Official of the Year. He holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Education from Indiana State University and remains dedicated to lifelong learning and professional development.
Dr. Kuhn and his wife, Monica, have been married for 18 years and are proud parents to two daughters, Camryn and Tenley. His commitment to education and family serves as a role model for the MSDWC community.
“Dr. Kuhn has been a valuable part of this school district for quite some time now,” noted MSDWC School Board President Scott Haupert. “He has worked beside Mr. Keaffaber to build the district to what it is today. The Board has unanimously decided to have Dr. Kuhn as our next Superintendent to lead our students to successful achievement and prepare them for life.”
Mike Keaffaber stated, “Dr. Kuhn is a visionary leader who will guide MSD of Wabash County to the next level. His dedication, experience, and passion for student success make him the ideal choice to build on our district’s strong foundation and drive us toward an even brighter future. It has been a privilege to work alongside him for the last nine years.”
