Nancy Carlene Hunter

Nancy Carlene Hunter, 74, of Gas City, passed away at 8:09 pm on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo. She was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Friday, November 25, 1949, to Ervin and Edna (Fogleson) Chelf.

Nancy graduated from Harry E. Wood High School in Indianapolis in 1967. She was known for her incredible work ethic, dedicating her talents to various companies including DANA, UTECH, RCA, Franklin Electric, H & R Block, and, most recently, Mason Village Apartments.

Nancy had a deep love for music, especially enjoying the performances of the local band, The Bandits. She cherished her family, loved reading, and was an avid football fan. Her baking was adored by everyone who had the pleasure of tasting it.

Above all, Nancy’s greatest joy was her family and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She will be remembered for her warmth, dedication, and the love she shared with those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Melissa Hunter; grandchildren, Seth (Amanda) Hunter, Samantha (Jacob) Smith, and Baily Montgomery; great-grandchildren, Tucker and two on the way; sister, Phyllis Smith; and best friend of 63 years, Ed Small.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenny Griffin; nephew, James Warner; and brother-in-law, Charles Smith.

A celebration of life for Nancy will be held at a later date.
