Orthopedics
Sherise Deardorff, PA-C, MPH, Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) – Orthopedics
An experienced physician assistant (PA), Sherise Deardorff is skilled in diagnosing and treating a wide range of inpatient and outpatient orthopedic issues. She is board-certified by the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants.
Previously, she served as a surgical oncology physician assistant, providing care for patients at an Indiana cancer hospital in conjunction with surgical and gynecologic oncologists as well as breast surgeons. She also worked for an infectious disease practice in the Chicago area, providing care for patients in a 200-bed hospital on the city’s south side and a nearly 700-bed hospital in Oaklawn, Illinois.
More recently, as a PA with PPG - Orthopedics, Deardorff has worked with both children and adults and has a special interest in total joint procedures, including knee, hip and shoulder arthroplasties. Deardorff completes the work-up on patients before surgery, assists the orthopedic surgeon during the procedure and helps with post-op care.
Deardorff earned both a Master of Medical Science degree and a Master of Public Health degree from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania. She completed her undergraduate studies at DePauw University in Greencastle, receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Originally from Akron, Indiana, Deardorff and her husband moved from Chicago back to Indiana to be close to family after the first of their two young sons was born. They now have a small farm in the Warsaw area.
Deardorff’s unique educational background and practice experiences enable her to provide truly comprehensive care for her patients.
“I am so glad that I decided to do a dual-degree master's program with physician assistant and public health,” said Deardorff. “This background helps providers see the bigger picture surrounding each patient's entire story, including their financial issues, social support and other medical issues. And having worked in infectious disease and surgical oncology has prepared me to deal with a variety of scenarios surrounding infection and caring for post-op patients. I work hard to treat every patient with respect and truly listen to them. I think every patient deserves this type of care.”
For complex orthopedic needs such as joint replacement, Deardorff works closely with Dr. Jason Ummel, Orthopaedics Northeast (ONE) surgeon, at Parkview Wabash Hospital to ensure patients receive the level of care they need and a seamless care team experience. Dr. Ummel is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics. He has a particular interest in total joint replacement, including the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement, as well as fracture surgery and all aspects of sports medicine.
“Sherise and I are pleased to be able to provide collaborative care for all of our Peru clinic patients’ orthopedic needs,” said Ummel.
