Patricia Mary (Sweeney) Conley, 78, of Wabash, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Pat was born in Wabash to Vincent and Rita Sweeney on October 30, 1946.
She attended St. Bernard Catholic School and was a 1964 Honors graduate of Wabash High School. She attended Purdue University and received a degree in Nursing in 1968. She worked at Wabash County Hospital for several years and eventually, after her move to Louisville, KY, she worked at Humana Hospital. In her retirement, she returned to Wabash to help care for her mother. Pat was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. She enjoyed walking several miles each day and followed Purdue and Louisville basketball and football on TV.
Pat is survived by four sisters, Alice (Dean) Kanelos, of Granville, Ohio, Irene Russell, of Indianapolis, Rosemary Roberts, of Huntington, and Kathleen (Paul) Elliott of Brownsburg. While living in Louisville, Pat had a very special relationship. She was “Mom” to Shontelle Gibson, of Louisville, Kentucky, “Grandma” to seven, and “Great grandma” to eight. Pat became an active member of Shontelle’s growing family; their relationship has spanned over 40 years. Pat would make the weekly drive down to Louisville to spend time with them, always bringing treats for the kids.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 5, 2025 to honor our sister, “Mom” and friend. Inurnment will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion. Further details will be announced.
