Petero “Pete”  Melzoni, Jr.

Petero “Pete”  Melzoni, Jr., 79, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 4:40 pm, Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at The Waters of Wabash East. He was born on May 1, 1945, in Harlan, Kentucky, to Rev. Petero “Pete”, Sr., and Emma Elizabeth (Edmonds) Melzoni.

Pete was a 1963 graduate of Clinton High School in Clinton, Tennessee and received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1968 from Cumberland College, in Williamsburg, Kentucky, where he was a member of the track team. He married Sandra Foster in Ringold, Georgia on March 14, 1964. He retired from Wabash Alloys after several years, where he was the production manager. He enjoyed fishing, but his biggest joy was being involved in his children’s activities. In 1997, he was named to the University of Cumberland’s First Athletic Hall of Fame, after an elite athletic career.  

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Melzoni of Wabash;  two daughters, Michelle Melzoni of Fort Myers, Florida, and Amy Melzoni of Nashville, Tennessee; grandson, Maxwell Kelsey of Nashville, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren, Alexander Matthew Melzoni and Adilyn Jo-Dean Melzoni, both of Warren; sister, Brenda Hatton of Marlowe, Tennessee.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Petero “Petey” Melzoni, III; grandson, Matthew Melzoni; brother, John Melzoni, and two sisters, Phyllis Jean Maples and Jacqueline Melzoni. 

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Wabash.  Friends may call 3:00-7:00 pm, on Friday, at the funeral home.
