Rex Raphael Bever, 96, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 11:03 am, Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 1019 Belles Place in Wabash, where he had lived since June 2021. He was born on April 3, 1928, in Lagro, Indiana, to Leo I. and Bernice T. (Roberts) Bever.
Rex was a 1947 graduate of Lagro High School and a US Army veteran serving in Korea. He married Wilma Yocum in Roann, Indiana on November 1, 1952; she died September 9, 1994. Rex worked for Gaunt Construction after he was discharged from the Army, and at Treaty Elevator for 39 years, retiring in 1993. He coached Little League and Pony League several years. Rex enjoyed watching Indiana University Athletics and has been a Los Angeles Dodger fan since 1946.
He is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Randy) Renbarger and Jeanne (Kevin) Atkinson, both of Wabash; seven grandchildren, Adam (Danielle) Renbarger and Mandy Renbarger, both of Wabash, Laura (Cory) Rogers of Pendleton, Indiana, Craig (Hope Lynch) Moorman of Gas City, Indiana, Zach (Jasmine Whitmer) Bever of Wabash, Anna (Tony) Vice of Columbia City, Indiana, and Alison (Aaron) Keppel of Wabash; 10 great grandchildren, Jackson, Hadley, and Harper Renbarger of Wabash, Connor, Jakob, and Demi Rogers of Pendleton, Damien Moorman of Gas City, Thea and Jay Vice of Columbia City, and Weston Keppel of Wabash; and his sister Phyllis Bowman of Lagro. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Jeffrey Bever.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, December 27, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 3-6 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
