Richard Ray Sims

Beloved husband, father, son, and brother, Richard Ray Sims, 74, of Peru, Indiana passed away at home on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 with his loving family by his side.

Richard was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on August 18, 1950 to Margaret Sims. He was a 1969 graduate of North Miami High School.  On December 12, 2012, Richard married Charlene (Imm) Crist and she survives.

Richard retired, after 41 years of service, from Norfolk Southern Railroad as a brakeman/conductor. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene; his former wife and the mother of his children, Karen (Gochenour) Sims; his children: Richard “Richie” Sims (Angie Rheinlander) of Peru, Indiana, Amy Sims of Peru, Indiana, Ryan Sims, of Peru, Indiana, and Wendy Crist of Union City, Indiana. Also surviving are grandchildren: Cody (Haylee) Poindexter, Jasmyne Sims, Arionna Sutton, Abigail (Dylan) Childers, Zach Sutton, Bradlee Kotkoski (Jennifer Smith), and Zoey Crist (Matthew Mayfield) and great grandchildren: Oakley, Lemar Jr., Braylynn, Olivia, Aaliyah, Oliver, and 1 great granddaughter and 1 great grandson both on the way. Other survivors include sisters, Patsy (Terry) Truex of Peru, Indiana and Linda (Bob) McKinley of Peru, Indiana and sister-in laws, Kathy Berry and Collene (Dr. Bob) Hill and also brothers-in-law, Don (Lori) Imm and Kenny (Pam) Imm; in addition to several nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Sims, grandparents: Andy and Hattie, grandchildren: Courtney Sutton and Austin Sutton, sister-in-law Christine Brigle, and brother-in-law’s, Ron Brigle and Roger Berry, and also a niece, Lisa(McKinley) Reibly.

As per Richard’s wishes, there will be no services.

Memorial contributions in Richard’s honor may be made to the Scratching Post Cat Rescue, 104 South Miami Street, Peru, Indiana or the North Miami Athletic Department,  570 East 900 North, Denver, Indiana 46926.
