Rita Rose Alexander, 83, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 2:20 am, Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington. She was born on June 15, 1941, in Hartford City, Indiana, to Leo and Agnes (Schuhmacher) Aulbach.
Rita was a 1959 graduate of Roll High School in Blackford County, Indiana. She married Robert Joseph Alexander at the St. John's Catholic Church in Hartford City on September 17, 1966; he died May 24, 2009. Rita worked at Frances Slocum Bank in Wabash, retiring after 30 years. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wabash. Rita spent the winter months at St. Pete Beach in Florida. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and board games, and flowers. She loved Florida and spending time with her church friends. She especially adored her grandchildren, and attended all of their activities.
She is survived by two children, Therese (David) Mettler of Huntington, and Kraig (Andrea) Alexander of Oxford, Michigan; six grandchildren, Jacob Alexander, Claire Alexander, Kiersten Alexander, Alexander Mettler, Eileen Mettler, and Ella Mettler; sister, Carolyn (Kenneth) Alexander of Wabash; and brother, Tom (Claire) Aulbach of Hartford City. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Larry Aulbach, and sister, Marilyn Cost.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Monday, July 15, 2024, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 188 W. Sinclair, Wabash, with Father Thomas Zehr officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-5 pm Sunday, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with a Rosary service at 5:00 pm.
Preferred memorial is St. Bernard Catholic Church.
