Roberta Fay Nelson, 83, of Marion, passed away at 1:10 am on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Aperion Care in Marion. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Friday, October 31, 1941, to James Reece and Erma (Schroll) Reece. On February 15, 1963, she married Russell Nelson who preceded her in death on January 24, 2010.
Roberta was faithfully dedicated to Jefferson Christian Church in Upland where she was a member for many years. She was an assistant song leader and custodian for the church. Roberta was a babysitter for many years and had a mothering nature. She even won “Mother Of The Year” award in 1994. Roberta enjoyed solving word search puzzles, listening to Christian music, and reading devotionals. More than anything, Roberta was dedicated to her family and cherished the time that she had with them.
Survivors include her sons, Rick (Tina) Nelson of OH, Randy Nelson of Marion, and Raymond (Dawn) Nelson of Marion; daughter, Rita (Michael) Mellendorf of Marion; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; plus, many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, James R Reece; mother, Erma (Schroll) Koontz; husband, Russell Nelson, Jr.; two sisters at birth; and brothers, Roger Reece, Bill Reece, Ronnie Joe Reece, Delmar Reece, and Chuck Reece.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Roberta’s life will begin at 12:00 pm with Pastor Rick Herring officiating. Burial will take place at Jefferson Cemetery in Upland.
