Ronald D. Mofield, 69, of Peru passed away at his residence on Monday, February 3, 2025.
He was born in Texas to the late William and Gertrud (Marsha) Mofield on January 10, 1956.
Ronald was employed at Peru Utilities from November of 2000 until his retirement in July of 2011. He loved to golf, bike, and volunteer at his favorite place – the Nickel Plate Trail.
There is a stretch of trail we call the “Mofield Mile.” Though it spans more than three miles, the name became a fitting tribute to the man who made it what it is today. Ron Mofield’s dedication to this trail was unmatched—his care and hard work turned it into the best-maintained and most beautiful stretch of the entire 45-mile path.
But Ron’s impact reached far beyond just one section. There wasn’t a place along the trail he hadn’t touched—whether repairing bridges, patching pavement, trimming trees, clearing fallen limbs, or picking up litter. He gave his time, his effort, and his heart, not for recognition, but for the love of the trail and the people who walked and biked it.
Now, as we walk these paths without him, we see his legacy in every well-kept mile. His hands may no longer clear the way, but his work and spirit remain. The “Mofield Mile” will always be more than a name—it will be a reminder of a man who gave so much, leaving the trail, and the world, better than he found it.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Roscoe Mofield, Bill Mofield, and Charlie Mofield.
He is survived by his sister, Loretta Westfall of Peru and brother, Harold Mofield of Peru.
Visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru. The funeral service will follow at 1pm with Pastor Phil Cruea officiating. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru.
