Ronald Dawson

Ronald Dawson, 91, passed away at 2:01 pm on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at his home in Marion. He was born in Anderson, Indiana, on Friday, June 30, 1933, to Roger Dawson and Aloysis Jackson.  He was married to Margie Lee Dawson (Faulkner), for 66 years prior to her passing in 2022, married on November 19, 1956.

 

Ron was a graduate from Anderson High School, afterwards, serving in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He later was employed at General Motor for 42 years, working as an operator, manager and finally in the chemistry lab at Magnequench (then a div. of GM)

A devout Christian, he was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, serving as an usher for many years. He loved sports, playing baseball as a kid and coaching various sports to his children, grandchildren and others. The life lessons he bestowed upon us will be carried on through his family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Kim (Odester) Dawson-Horton of Marion; son, Ronald L. (Mary Kay) Dawson, Jr. of Carmel; son, Fred McCreary of Marion; daughter, Marsha McCreary of Marion; grandchildren, Derricka Lollis of Baltimore, MD, Derriesa Lollis of Marion, Morganne West – Dawson of Indianapolis, Evan Dawson of Carmel, Marsha Renee of Muncie, Fredricka, Thalon, Sheena, and Brandon and Latoya; great-grandchildren, Derrion, Derrick; sisters: Mildred Powell of Anderson, Lois Ann Miles of Anderson, Mary Ellen Jackson of Atlanta, GA, Daverna Jackson of Atlanta, GA, Brother David Jackson Jr. of Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, David Jackson; wife, Margie Lee Dawson; two brothers, Tommy Dawson, Jackie Dawson; two sisters, Francis Dawson and Icelean McClendon.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Ronald’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. William Gibson officiating.  Burial will take place at Estates of Serenity.
