Rose Ellen (Leedy) Marek passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024 at 3:32 pm after a long battle with illness, and the loss of her husband, Frank, in April of 2023 whom she loved dearly.
Rose was one of twelve children, she was born to Joseph and Ellen (Cunningham) Leedy on July 12th, 1938. She grew up on a farm in Northern Miami County, and was very close with her siblings. Rose enjoyed riding horses, and having screaming matches with her sister, Jane. Her love of animals did not end with horses, Rose had several dogs throughout her life that she adored and loved endlessly.
Rose married Russell Dean Scott in June of 1956, together they had five children, Ellen Marie (Gary) Nichols, Sara Kay Robison, John Scott, Sheryl (Paul) Fincher, and Phillip (Christine) Scott. Rose and Russell remained married for 19 years.
Rose later married Frank Marek, Jr September 1st, 1990, and they were together until the end. They enjoyed their time together, which included caring for several dogs throughout their relationship with one of their most beloved, Boo, who preceded them both in death. They were avid fans of Harley Davidson, and enjoyed riding for several years.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ellen, four brothers, Roger, Jerry, Wesley, and Steve Leedy, three sisters, Ardis Leedy, Maryann Shinn, and Sue Nutt, her son, John Scott, grandson, Jacob Wesley Scott, and great grand-daughter, Marjorie Faye Willis. She is survived by four of her children, step son, Frank Marek III, two brothers, Tom (Beth Anne) Leedy, Stan Leedy, and two sisters, Jane Deeds (Bob Sonne) and Sara Stokes, and one sister-in-law, Sandra (Joe) Campbell. Rose has several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly.
Rose is remembered as having a “lead foot,” and always having fast, red cars and red nails. Rose enjoyed the beach, and the beauty in nature. She was present for holidays, graduations, weddings, births, deaths; she was stubborn, and yet the most loving and freely giving woman. As a grandmother, she allowed endless sodas, and silly movies. She is remembered for baking the best pies, and never letting anyone visit without giving a parting gift of some sort, whether it was a stuffed animal Frank had won in the claw machine, or sending you home with random sets of tea cups purchased at a flea market. Rose loved her family, her parents, and siblings she always talked about in high regard, and would reminisce often about her childhood. She was loved and will be missed tremendously.
A celebration of life will be held from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery next to her husband, Frank, at a later date.
