Roy Edward Childers, 79 of Peru passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at home.
He was born on April 11, 1945, in Peru, Indiana to Walter W. Childers and Lulu Vivian (Crane) Childers. He married Pamela Sue (Howard) Childers on March 2, 1991 and she survives.
Roy served our country in the Army from September 1, 1965 to August 31, 1967. During his time in the service, Roy received the Vietnam Service Ribbon and a Purple Heart. Roy was a 1995 graduate of Indiana University. He later retired from the Andersons as a chemist.
He loved hiking, gardening, swimming, and anything to do with outdoors. Roy was a maple syrup producer for over 40 years. He visited many national and state parks. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Peru, Indiana, the 25th Infantry Division, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Gideons, Indiana Maple Syrup Association (IMSA), the Indiana Nut and Fruit Growers Association (INFGA).
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children, Timothy Edward Childers, Kempton, Donald Ray (Shelly) Childers, Rochester; seven grandchildren, Kristyn Childers of North Manchester, Indiana, Autumn (Ryan) Neihouser of Francisville, Indiana, Randy (Makayla) Childers of Kokomo, Indiana, Devin Childers of Rochester, Indiana, Ashley (Dakota) Childers of Peru, Indiana, Sean Childers of Kokomo, Indiana, Julie Childers of Kokomo, Indiana; two great grandchildren, Rose Neihouser and Aydan Buckberry. Roy is also survived by his uncle, James Childers of Payson, Arizona.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold Childers.
Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 331 W. Sixth Street, Peru. The funeral service will take place at the church on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 10:30am. A military rites service will follow and interment will take place at Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.
Flowers may be sent to the church and memorial contributions may be given to Gideons, the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at the Nazarene Church, and/or a charity of your choice.
