Sara Nordling Exhibit on display at the Honeywell Center

WABASH, IN – Honeywell Arts & Entertainment will host an exhibit by artist Sara Nordling from October 2 through November 10 at the Clark Gallery in the Honeywell Center. Nordling will be on-site for a public reception on Wednesday, October 16, at 5:30 p.m. at the Honeywell Center. Reception reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 260.563.1102 or visiting honeywellarts.org. The exhibit, titled “Layers of Meaning,” will feature woven textiles. Nordling states, “The primary expression for my work is woven textiles. How multitudes of disparate threads get organized into a unified cloth, that even when simple is complex, is what I’m interested in and what I celebrate in what I create. The voices of the threads speak of working together, of harmony and peace. They sing of color, beauty, and joy. They come from a meditative place that takes me away from everyday troubles to the contemplation of that which transcends time.” While woven textiles are a mainstay of her work, she also paints, draws, knits, spins, felts, and stitches, constructing art in various forms. Nordling has an MFA in Studio Art from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., a BFA in Studio Art from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and a BA in Theology and Psychology from Concordia University, Chicago, Ill. She currently resides in Fort Wayne, Ind. “Sara Nordling’s weavings are formal explorations and wonderfully self-contained—what you see is what you get. Hanging horizontally, the textiles are both expansive and impressive signifiers of skill and thoughtful considerations in planning. Each pattern and color is carefully executed in a meditative practice of seemingly endless repetition. The weavings have a similar meditative effect on the viewer so that one is able to experience the calm and effortlessness of its making. Nordling’s works embrace a subtle handling of color and texture to create extraordinarily delicate optic journeys,” states Adam Welch of the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts, MFA 2011 catalog artist statement. The Clark Gallery hosts exhibits by students, amateurs, and professional artists. Visual art experiences are an important part of the Honeywell Arts & Entertainment mission of providing arts, education, and entertainment for all. Clark Gallery exhibits are made possible in part by Borders and Beyond Gallery & Framing, Bowen Health, Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Intrasect, Oswalt-Thomas Sales & Service, and Schlemmer Brothers Metalworks.
