Steven Kent Brewer, age 68, of Peru, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at 12:24 pm, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on April 5, 1956, to Mary L. (Waymire) and Lee Dean Brewer in Peru, Indiana.
Steve was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He loved with his whole heart, and those fortunate enough to know him will forever remember his kindness, generosity, and unwavering loyalty. Steve’s impact on the lives of those he loved was immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A tool and die maker by trade, Steve worked for Classico Seating until 2011 before starting his own machine shop, SKB Machine, at home. He was a lifelong member of the ABC Bowling League and a regular in the Wednesday night men’s league for Waymire Motors. A highlight of his bowling career was competing in the National Bowling Championships in Reno, a trip that held a special place in his heart.
Outside of work, Steve was an avid fisherman, spending countless hours on his boat, fishing with loved ones. Also, enjoying hunting trips with his best friends. A talented baseball player, Steve earned the opportunity to play for the Cincinnati Reds and later went on to coach his brother’s baseball team at IUK and umpire games. Steve’s love for aviation led him to earn his pilot’s license, and even after he could no longer fly, he found joy in using his flight simulator at home.
Steve was also a gifted magician, sharing his passion for illusions with others. He and his “crew” put together many shows across the state, spreading joy and wonder to audiences for years. He loved Westerns, cowboys, outlaws, and Native American history, and his enthusiasm for these interests was contagious.
Steve married Dawn Turpin on November 4, 2006, in Peru, Indiana, and they spent nearly two decades by each other’s side thick or thin. She survives, along with his sister, Debra (Dave) Helton; brother, Tony (Lori) Brewer; daughters, Latetia Strickler (John Lundquist) of Wabash, Thosha Turpin of Peru, and Keishia (Andrew) Harper of Peru; son, Steven Brewer (Jolene Gist) of Elwood; 13 grandchildren: Ambry Strickler, Cale Lundquist, Bryce Brewer, Jordyn Brewer, Brooklyn Brewer, Lily Brewer, Dean Brewer, Layla, Bradley, Skylar, Alan, Casandra, and Rayden; and many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, and lifelong friends, including James (Marie) Guyer, Bill (Janette) Fansler, and Roy Culley. He was also preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and brother in law, who will forever hold a place in his heart.
Steve’s passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him, but his love, spirit, and the memories he created will live on forever. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service celebrating Steve’s life will be held at Flowers and Leedy Funeral Home in Peru Indiana on Thursday March 27th 2025. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm with services Immediately following at 1 pm.
