The following is from Wabash Mayor Scott Long: WABASH, IN- After completing over 35 years of service to the citizens of Wabash, Fire Chief Barry Stroup is retiring from the Wabash Fire Department on December 31st, 2023. Chief Stroup has held various positions within the Fire Department during his career and has been instrumental in many of the advancements within the Fire Department. Stroup played a critical role in Wabash being selected by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security as the location of a Regional Fire Training Center most recently. Stroup has elevated the training standards of the Department since being appointed Chief in 2016 and has left a solid foundation for his successor.
It is my honor to announce that I have selected Assistant Chief/EMS Director Andy Oswalt to succeed Stroup as Chief of the Wabash Fire Department effective January 1st, 2024. Oswalt has served with the Fire Department for 18 years and has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the standards that have been put in place by Chief Stroup. I look forward to working closely with Chief Oswalt as he begins his role at the helm of the Fire Department and am sure that he will lead with passion and vision moving forward.
I would like to thank Chief Stroup for his years of service to the Wabash Fire Department and wish him well on his retirement. I also welcome and congratulate Chief Oswalt on the role of Chief of the Wabash Fire Department. The City of Wabash and Wabash County are fortunate to have dedicated individuals to serve the community with Fire and Emergency Medical/Paramedic needs, and we look forward to serving the community every day.
