Thomas Hicks

Thomas Hicks, 87, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 9:19 am, Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Parkview Wabash Hospital, surrounded by his family.  He was born on October 6, 1937, in Pyramid, Kentucky, to Norman L. and Sadie (Shepherd) Hicks.

Tom married Dawn Hughes in Auxier, Kentucky on September 5, 1959; she died August 12, 2020. He worked at Wabash Alloys for more than 40 years. Tom was an avid fisherman and taught all of his family to catfish. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the 300 club. Tom also enjoyed playing softball and gardening. He loved animals and took care of all the neighborhood pets. Tom took great care of his car and house, with floors so clean you could eat off of them. He loved his grandkids and great grandkids, and loved to tease them. He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan, Cincinnati Reds fan, and Cleveland Browns fan. Tom was a loving husband and caregiver to his wife, Dawn, in her later years.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheri Culver of Wabash, and Pam Knight of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren, Nathan (Lindsay) Culver and Andrew (Angela) Culver, both of Wabash, Brandon (Kayla Holloway) Culver of Fishers, Indiana, Jordan (Courtney) Culver of Wabash, and Mia (Daniel Gibbs) Overpeck of Tipton, Indiana; eight great-grandchildren, Maddox, Hudson, Hadley, Beckett Jayden, Luna, Cohan, and Finley; sisters, Mandy Brownback of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Shirley (Glen) DeBoard of Wabash; sister-in-law Donna Hicks of Huron, Ohio; and brother-in-law Dan Goble of Hopkinsville, Kentucky.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Caleb Lee Culver, son-in-law Michael Culver; brothers, Ray, Carl, Clifford, Glen, and Dan Hicks, and sisters, Frankie Hicks, and Ruth Goble.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Friends may call 2-3 pm Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery at a later date.

Preferred memorials are Parkview Hospice or the Animal Shelter of Wabash County.
