MIAMI COUNTY, IN- United Way of Miami County is thrilled to share some exciting news with the community. Recognizing the rising costs of secondary education, they have doubled their scholarship amount from $500 to $1,000 per student, providing even more financial assistance as they support students in their academic journeys.
This year, three students—one from each of Miami County’s high schools—will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help cover tuition, books, or other educational expenses at a college, trade school, or secondary education program. United Way believes in supporting students who share a passion for community service, whether through volunteering or by experiencing its impact firsthand.
Thanks to the proceeds from the 2nd Annual 5K, United Way is able to fund these scholarships and help even more students succeed.
Last year, they were honored to award scholarships to Emma Johnson from Maconaquah High School, Daniel Martinez from North Miami High School, and Olivia Reynolds from Peru High School. Each of these students demonstrated a strong commitment to community service, and they are proud to have supported their educational journeys.
To apply, students must submit a 500-word, MLA-formatted essay reflecting on how community service has influenced their lives and perspectives. Essays will be judged on content, clarity, and grammar.
“The cost of education continues to rise, and we recognize the financial challenges that many students and families face,” said Morgan Gold, Executive Director at United Way of Miami County. “By doubling our scholarship awards, we hope to make a greater impact and support students who have demonstrated a commitment to their community.”
If you are a student at Maconaquah, North Miami, or Peru High School, please apply now. The deadline is April 15th. Submission guidelines and additional details are available through school guidance counselors or click here
