PERU, IN- Peru Police Chief Matt Feller announced that on January 2, 2024, the City of Peru Board of Works approved the promotion and appointment of Michael Vinopal to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police. Prior to his appointment, Assistant Chief Vinopal most recently served as the dayshift lieutenant.
Assistant Chief Vinopal is a 19-year veteran of the Peru Police Department and previously held the ranks of midnight shift sergeant, midnight shift lieutenant, administrative captain, and dayshift lieutenant. In addition to his supervisory responsibilities, Assistant Chief Vinopal serves as a field training officer, generalist instructor, standardized field sobriety instructor, and emergency vehicle operations instructor. He is also a highly trained drug recognition expert and regularly assists and trains officers in Miami County and across the State of Indiana with evaluating drivers suspected of driving under the influence of narcotics.
Assistant Chief Vinopal is a graduate of Maconaquah High School, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, and the Indiana Police Executive Leadership Academy. The father of two adult children, Assistant Chief Vinopal resides in Miami County with his wife, Lisa.
