Wayne Edward Koch passed away May 5, 2024, surrounded by family. Wayne was born on November 20, 1954, in Gary, Indiana to the late George and Geraldine Koch. He graduated from Andrean High School in 1973 and furthered his education at Butler University, graduating in 1978. Wayne went on to serve Northwest Indiana as a pharmacist at Ribordy Drugs and Walgreens until his recent retirement. He was loved and respected by fellow pharmacists, staff, and his many customers.
Wayne enjoyed golfing. His family and friends recall his encouraging words of “trees are just 90% air”. Wayne enjoyed visiting national parks and traveling the world. Family and friends will remember his love of cruises, his adventuresome spirit for new destinations and interesting foods (including what was on the plates of others).
Wayne is survived by his very fortunate and loving wife, Julie A. Koch, his son Joel (wife Kerstin) and son Benjamin (wife Teri) of Valparaiso, Indiana; son Logan (Hanna Raber) of Salt Lake City, Utah; and daughter Madison Hentgen (husband Alexander) of Chesterton, Indiana; as well as grandchildren Alexa, Nora, Emily, Nolan, Remington, and Bowen. Wayne is also survived by his sister Georgia (Edward) Miller of Henderson, Nevada and brothers Donald (late wife Cynthia) of Highland, Indiana and Raymond (Dianne) of Oak Creek, Wisconsin, as well as several extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made in Wayne’s name to Northwestern Memorial Foundation, Lou and Jean Malnati Brain Tumor Institute.
