William “Bill” D.  Lash

William “Bill” D.  Lash, 76, current resident of Marion and formerly of Jonesboro, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on April 3, 1948, the son of William and Lena (Craig) Lash. On June 26, 1976, he married Darlene Moss. Bill began his working life at the young age of 14, starting at Spencer Hotel and later working at Weesner’s Gas Station/Auto Body and Godwin’s Auto and Electric. In 1978, he proudly joined the United States Navy, serving his country with honor until 1986. Bill had a lifelong passion for cars and enjoyed attending Ducktail Run. He was fascinated by the Amish community and loved spending time in Shipshewana, camping and learning about their way of life. A creature of habit, Bill cherished his morning cup of coffee, watching “In the Heat of the Night,” and spending afternoons in his barn until dinner time. He was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Bill’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He also had a deep love for television, which brought him much comfort and entertainment. He made sure there was a television everywhere he went. Bill also loved mowing his yard. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Heartland Hospice, Dr. Michael Dunn, NP Chau Jackson, the VA staff, Dr. Mahendran, and the staff at Marion Cancer Center for their excellent care and kindness. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Darlene Lash; children, Kelly (Tony) Schurger, Jeff (Annie) Lash, Dawn Bounds, and Bill (Monica) Troyer; grandchildren, Jackson Schurger, Levi Schurger, Aiden Lash, Elliott Lash, Ian Troyer, and Logan Troyer; one great-grandchild; brothers-in-law, Tim (Phyllis) Moss and Mike (Joan) Moss; and special cousin, Carlene Korber. He was preceded in death by his father, William F. Lash; mother, Lena Lash; and brother, Ronnie Lash. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Bill’s life will begin at 5:00 pm.  Pastor Tom Mansbarger and Pastor Brad Wright will be officiating.  Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Marion National Cemetery.
