Yong C. Schmidt, 79, Marion, was surrounded by her family when she passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Pyongnam-do, Korea, on February 24, 1945. On December 29, 1967, she married Lawrence R. Schmidt, and he survives.
Yong began working at the VA in 1987 and retired in 2010. She was a Residential Sponsor who took veterans into her home. She opened up their home, provided cooking and cleaning, assisted with medical needs, and helped establish them in society. Yong was an excellent cook, and she enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Yong was a strong Christian woman, who was faithful to the Lord and a faithful member at St. Paul Catholic Church.
In addition to her loving husband of nearly 57 years, survivors include her sons, Hun (Karin) Schmidt of Albuquerque, NM, and Larry (Amy) Schmidt of Marion; daughters, Tracy (Robert) Riddle of Sweetser and Tammy (Ronnie) Adcock of Marion; grandsons, Robert Riddle, Jr., Jonathan Riddle, Matthew Schmidt, Zachary Schmidt, and Bryson Adcock; granddaughter, Madison (Marcus) Fields; great-grandson, Charles Riddle; and great-granddaughters, Emily Riddle and Eliana Fields.
The family will receive visitors from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
On Saturday, July 6, 2024, a funeral mass to celebrate Yong's life will be held at 11:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 W. Kem Rd., Marion, IN. Father Hilary Okeke will be officiating with burial following at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
