Michael G. Hughes

Michael G. Hughes, 71, died Sunday evening, August 12, 2018, in IU Health Blackford Hospital, Hartford City. He was born in Huntington, on April 28, 1947, the son of the late Rex G. and Faye Bell (Craig) Hughes.

He attended Mississinewa High School and served in the United States Marine Corp. and the Army National Guard for a total of 20 years. He was a truck driver for various companies and was also an Owner-Operator.

Mike married Janice Williams on March 1, 1993.

Mike was formerly the pastor at Grace United Methodist Church, Marion and formerly the pastor at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Hartford City. He enjoyed deer hunting, playing guitar- specializing in country and gospel music; he had recorded two CDs in Nashville, Tennessee, and was a member of the Boomtown Ramblers, Gas City. He was a member of the Arcana Masonic Lodge #427, Upland where was a past Master and currently served as the Chaplain. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne.

Survivors include his wife:  Janice Hughes, Upland; a son: Michael (Michelle) Hughes, Marion; two daughters:  Michaele (Joe) Martin, Marion; and Anne Hughes-Ortiz, Apopka, Florida; Grandchildren: Rachel (Tom) Roush, Marion; Tavin Staggs, Marion; Ryan Riggs, Churubusco; Kaylin Hughes, Marion; and Dakota Coppler, Apopka, Florida; two sisters: Nancy (Shawn) Chen, Huntington; and Brenda (Ward) Lewis, Fort Wayne; two brothers: David Hughes, Zephyrhills, Florida; and Randall Hughes, Marion; a step-sister: Carol (Bob) King, Upland; and a step-brother: Gordon Hawkinson, Marion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-brothers, Larry, Jerry, and Terry Behr; a sister, Jaqueline Smith; step-mother, Betty Hughes; and a granddaughter, Kara Stoebe.

Arrangements were entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Jones-Smith Chapel, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana, where a visitation will be held from 10:30 am -12:30 pm on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Masonic Rites Service will be at 12:30 pm and the funeral service will follow with the Rev. Ward Lewis officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Marion National Cemetery.
