District

Congratulations to this year’s Teachers of the Year and Staff of the Year: Southwood Elementary – Erica Tyson and Ashley Unger, Metro North Elementary – Chloe Plyler and Madeline Dazey, Sharp Creek Elementary – Kelly Ross and Kayla Black, Southwood Jr/Sr – Angie Loschiavo and Mark Smith, Northfield Jr/Sr High – Denise Stouffer and Tracy Kennedy, White’s/Bridge – Jay Wyatt and Emily Buzzard

The overall district winners were Staff of the Year, Tracy Kennedy, Teacher of the Year (Elementary), Chloe Plyler, Teacher of the Year (High School), Angie Loschiavo.

White’s Jr/Sr High

Congratulations to both Linda Felheim and Jackie Sebesta on their retirement.  Jackie has served at White’s for seven years, and Linda for 21 years. The entire staff at WHS wishes them both the best on a well-earned retirement.

Sharp Creek Elementary

Congratulations to Sharp Creek 4th grader Kinley Merrick! Her artwork was chosen by a panel of judges as one of the 30 Streeter Hadley Matthew’s Grand Award Winners for 2026. This artwork was distinguished from over 11,000 artworks produced by Indiana students.

Sharp Creek Elementary students and staff say thank you and wish Mrs. Shannon a happy retirement after 27 years of providing Character Building lessons to our students.

Southwood Elementary

SES student, Lucas Sears, has been recognized as a National Math Star Nominee through a partnership between MSDWC, the Indiana Department of Education, and National Math Stars. This honor is awarded to 2nd and 3rd-grade students who scored in the top 2% on the ILEARN Math assessment.

Metro North Elementary

Thank you to Krissy Cunningham and our Bash Bags team for ensuring that our MSDWC elementary students have kid-friendly meals and snacks for the weekend.  Each Thursday, this team makes and delivers over 620 bags to our Wabash County elementary schools.

Southwood Jr/Sr High

Congratulations to four SHS seniors who were recognized at the TRC Academic Awards Banquet: Mental Attitude Award – Owen Enyeart & Hailey Collins, Distinguished Athlete Award (Academic All-Conference at least 5 of 6 seasons during the junior and senior years) – Cooper Drake, Owen Enyeart, & Hailey Collins, Scholar Athlete Award (Top 5% of graduating class and minimum SAT score of 1150) – Coan Holloway & Hailey Collins.

Southwood wishes a happy retirement and gives a big thank you to Becky Bradley and Jeff Springer for their decades of support, impact, and dedication to Southwood and MSDWC. 

Congratulations to the following Southwood student athletes for qualifying for Track Regionals, Hailey Collins, Paige Nelson, Presley Kroft, and Lola Winer in the 4×800 meter relay; Lola Winer in the 400m Dash; Alexis Lopez in the High Jump; Cooper Drake in the 800m Run; and Blake Enyeart in the 1600m Run. 

Northfield Jr/Sr High

Congratulations to 5 NHS seniors who were recognized at the TRC Academic Awards Banquet: Mental Attitude Award – Callie Hoffman & Brayden Rice

Scholar Athlete Award (Top 5% of graduating class and minimum SAT score of 1150) – Logan Lyons, Mason Lyons, & Brinlei Swihart.

Congrats to these NHS Track Team Members for qualifying for regional competition this week:  Boys – 4×800 relay team of Logan Lyons, Briggs Baker, Mason Lyons, & Brayden Rice; Logan Lyons in the 1600m, and Tyler Haupert in Pole Vault.  Girls – Sophia Holley in the 100m and 200m dashes. Kaleigh Rice in the 3200m run. 

Congratulations to Northfield Junior High student Norlina Martin and Jackson Renbarger who were awarded the Rhonda Shaw and Johnathan Snyder awards.  These awards go to those students who treat their peers and teachers with respect, are kind to everyone, work hard, and have good character and integrity.  

On May 14, Metro North held its 6th Kids Fit Final Mile.  Since spring break, our Preschool through grade 2 students have been training with the Kids Fit program, sponsored by the 500 Festival. We’ve worked toward a shared goal of completing 13.1 miles or more.
