Thelma L. Benbow

Thelma L. Benbow, 95, Marion, passed away at 1:15 am on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Miller’s Merry Manor. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Tuesday, September 16, 1930, to George and Dorothy (Turner) Russell.  On August 9, 1958, she married William R. Benbow and he preceded her.  

Thelma graduated from Argos High School and obtained her undergraduate degree at Marion College (IWU) and furthered her graduate studies at Ball State University.

She dedicated 28 years to teaching with Marion Community Schools, where she touched the lives of countless students through her kindness, guidance, and unwavering support. A faithful member of West 8th Street Wesleyan Church, she was actively involved in Bible school, funeral dinners, and many other church ministries. She loved playing games, working puzzles, socializing, and spending time with others. She enjoyed watching the Indiana Fever, traveling, and wintering in Florida with friends, where her family looked forward to visiting each spring break. Above all, she cherished her family and treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Ronald “Ron” M. (Joyce) Benbow of Marion, Philip (Jo) Benbow of Marion, Becky (Doug) Cole of Marion; sister, Mary Sherman; grandchildren, Ryan Benbow, Brooke (Jeff) Raybould, and Caitlin Benbow.

She was preceded in death by parents, George and Dorothy Russell; husband, William R. Benbow; siblings, Irene Snyder, Leonard Russell, Allen Russell; brothers-in-law, Don Sherman and William Snyder.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Thelma’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dan Van Cise officiating.  Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
