HUNTINGTON COUNTY, IN- On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at approximately 4:50pm, a fatal two-vehicle crash occurred at SR 9 and CR 100 South in Huntington County, IN involving an SUV and a semi-trailer.
Kaley D. Barnes, age 43, of Marion, IN was the restrained operator of a 2022 Kia Telluride that was traveling southbound on SR 9, when for reason unknown, failed to see a 2011 Volvo semi tractor with a flatbed trailer operated by Markus Shell, age 31, of Jackson, MS making a left-hand turn onto CR 100 South. Ms. Barnes was traveling in the passing lane of the highway and drove into the back of the trailer. The Kia became pinned under the trailer after the collision. Mr. Shell was medically cleared at the scene. Ms. Barnes sustained multiple blunt impact injuries of the body and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her death was ruled accidental.
The investigation into the crash continues with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, and the coroner’s office. The Huntington County Coroner’s Office extend their sincere sympathies to the Barnes family and friends.
