Robert “Bob” Cornwell, 98, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 6:11 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Wellbrooke of Wabash. Born May 10, 1928, in Bay City, Michigan, to Charles Arthur Cornwell and Katheryn Mary (Russell) Offutt, Bob grew up with a lifelong love of learning that shaped both his work and his hobbies.
Bob married Frances Snyder on November 13, 1948, in Campbell County, Kentucky. They shared nearly 70 years of marriage before her passing on September 22, 2018. Their partnership was steady, warm, and deeply rooted in family.
Professionally, Bob worked for General Tire and later became a computer programming consultant, lending his sharp mind and problem‑solving skills to several companies. He was an avid reader-always exploring, always absorbing something new. He found joy in the outdoors as a fisherman and hunter, and in the quiet precision of assembling WWII‑era model airplanes, many of which are proudly displayed at the Wabash Municipal Airport, a testament to his craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Bob is survived by his children, Marcia (Steve) Neff of Walnut Creek, California, and Michael (Loretta) Cornwell of Wabash; four grandchildren, Erin (Bill) Baginski of Akron, Ohio, Daniel (Larry Price) Neff of Madison, Wisconsin, Joseph (Asami Novak) Neff of San Diego, California and Benjamin Neff, of Oakland, California; and two great‑grandchildren, Nico and Remy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances Lucille Cornwell, and brother, US Army Ret. Lt. Col. Michael Cornwell.
Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Grandstaff‑Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Joseph Indian School, PO Box 300, Chamberlain, South Dakota 57325-9919.
