Bessie M. Burke

Bessie M. Burke, 87, Marion, formerly of Jonesboro, passed away at 10:50 am on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Wyndmoor of Marion. She was born in Rella, Kentucky, on Wednesday, February 16, 1939, to Cecil and Flora (Rice) York. On September 28, 1968 she married Will Scott Burke and he preceded her in death.

Bessie graduated from Bell County High School and worked as a Press Operator for 33 years with Bell Fibre. Bessie loved to crochet and knit, read, and do crossword puzzles and crafts.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl (Jerry) Gibbs of Garden Grove, CA; grandson, Aaron Gibbs of CA; granddaughter, Sarah (Mike) Sosa of CA; great-granddaughter, Adalynne Sosa of CA; bonus grandchild, Amanda Lyons; step-daughters, Lyvonne Nightenhelser and family, Sheila (Dan) O’Keefe and family; step-sons, Randy (Denise) Burke and family, Sandy (Kim) Burke and Emily; brother, Kelly (Frieda) York of Riceville, TN; sister, Julie (Clem) Kramer of Elizabeth, IN; special friends, Brent and Peggy Lee; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and friends and caregivers at Wyndmoor of Marion.

In addition to her husband Scott, she was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Flora York; step-son, Justin Burke; and siblings, William York, Ernie York and an infant sister.

The family will receive visitors from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St, Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Bessie’s life will begin at 12:30 pm with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.  Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory – Marion.
