Linda Jackson announces retirement after 38 years in broadcasting

FORT WAYNE, IN- This from WPTA.com: After 38 years serving the viewers of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio, Linda Jackson will retire from 21Alive News at the end of October.

Linda’s career started in 1988 at WKJG/NBC33, where she eventually became the evening anchor until joining 21Alive News in 2005.

Linda’s place as a legend was cemented in 2020, when she was inducted into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Richard M. Fairbanks Hall of Fame, which is part of the Indiana Broadcasters Association.

“Linda is the definition of a legend,” 21Alive News Director Ian Hoover said. “While I’m sad to see one of my first mentors in this industry wrap up her career, I’m happy knowing our newsroom will carry her legacy with us.”

While viewers know Linda best from her years of anchoring newscasts, her legacy is truly rooted behind the scenes.

Linda has mentored countless journalists over her decades in Fort Wayne. From producers to reporters to even her own managers, everyone who worked with Linda benefited from her support.

“For over 20 years, I’ve seen Linda embody our mission to provide trusted news that shines a light on key issues and keeps families safe,” 21Alive News VP and General Manager Chris Fedele said. “She remains our sounding board for news judgment, leaving an unforgettable impact on both our newsroom and our community.”

While our family here at 21Alive News is sad to see Linda make this decision, we know she’s doing what’s best for her.

“Getting to pursue and fulfill my dream of becoming a broadcast journalist in my adopted Hoosier hometown is one of the greatest joys of my life.

My decision to retire from the industry wasn’t easy to make, but it is right for me right now.

Throughout the countless rewarding experiences and opportunities, I’ve never forgotten how lucky I am.

Words can’t adequately express my gratitude for my coworkers, bosses, and especially everyone who’s watched and followed along over my 38-plus years.

I am forever grateful.” Linda Jackson said.
