Linda Luedtke Gilpin

Linda Luedtke Gilpin was born in Gary, Indiana, on March 4, 1941, to Howard and Hilda (Noak) Luedtke, the oldest of four children. After graduating grom Merrillville High School in 1959, she attended Valparaiso University where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Epsilon Sorority. She graduated in 1963. She later earned her masters degree from Purdue University Calumet.

Linda was a math teacher for 14 years and a school counselor for 29 years. She worked at Wheeler Jr. High, Merrillville Jr. High, Taft Jr. High, Merrillville H.S. and Peru J. High. She retired in 2006 after 43 years in the education system.

Linda married John Gilpin D.V.M. on August 6, 1988. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served as a communion steward for over 30 years. She also taught Sunday School, belonged to the Doris Blake Circle, and served on many committees. She was a member and past president of Tri Kappa and the Round Table literary society. She also served as treasurer of Round Table for 22 years. She enjoyed volunteering at the Honeywell Center. She and John were also members of the Grissom Community Council.

Linda and John enjoyed traveling, some of their favorite trips were to Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Russia, Estonia, Germany, Greenland, Iceland, Maui, Kauai, Mexico, Tahiti, Canada and Costa Rica. She loved playing tennis until she sustained a knee injury in her late 70’s.

Linda is survived by her son Jeff Davis of Parker, Colorado and her daughter Diane (Mike) Luce of Brownsburg, Indiana; six grandchildren, Phillip Luce of Seattle, Washington, Daniel (Amanda) Luce of Indianapolis, Allison (Jacob) Chambers, Jessica (Scott) Atkinson, and Susanna (Josh) Smith, all of Anchorage, Alaska, Sage Davis of Connecticut, and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Ken (Sandy) Luedtke and Glen (Debbie) Luedtke, both of Lafayette, Indiana.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 29 years, John Gilpin, who died in 2017, and her sister, Joyce Richter.

A memorial service for Linda will be at 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2026 at Wabash First United Methodist Church, 110 North Cass Street, Wabash, with Pastor Lore Gibson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Friday, at the church.

Preferred memorials are Wabash First United Methodist Church, the Honeywell Center Foundation, and White’s Family and Residential Services.
