AUBURN & WABASH, IN – Parkview DeKalb Hospital and Parkview Wabash
Hospital received the Birnbaum Quality Leadership Top Performer award from Vizient, which
announced its 2026 honorees on Monday, September 28th, 2026.
It’s the third time since 2022 that Parkview DeKalb Hospital has received the Birnbaum award,
while Parkview Wabash Hospital is receiving the award for the first time in five years.
The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study measures performance on the quality of patient
care in six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient
centeredness and variation in care. The study helps participating hospitals and health systems
understand their performance against their peers and identifies structures and processes
associated with high performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care
activity.
“Providing high-quality hospital care to our rural communities is central to our mission at
Parkview Health,” said Dr. Jeffrey Boord, chief quality and safety officer, Parkview Health. “We
continuously invest in evidence-based processes and programs that help our community
hospital co-workers and medical staff provide excellent care. This requires a systemwide
approach and long-term commitment.”
This year, 1,348 participating hospitals were segmented into seven cohorts for the Vizient
Quality and Accountability Study. The study measures performance in six domains of patient
care quality: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient-centeredness, and variation
in care. The study factors in measures from the Vizient Clinical Data Base and includes
performance data from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and
Systems survey and the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network.
Parkview DeKalb Hospital was one of 24 small community hospitals to receive the Birnbaum
award out of 221 evaluated, while Parkview Wabash Hospital was one of 16 award winners out
of 173 critical access hospitals scored.
“The cornerstone of excellent rural healthcare is delivering the highest quality care to people
close to home,” said Doug Selig, vice president of patient care for Parkview Wabash Hospital.
“With the support of Parkview’s network of physicians and specialists, our patients can access
the highest levels of quality in care right here in Wabash County.”
“We’re proud to once again be recognized by Vizient for the quality of care being provided at
Parkview DeKalb Hospital,” said Julie Wilson, market president, Parkview Northeast. “Great
patient care starts with our dedicated co-workers, who make connections with and deliver a
great experience to their patients while treating them.”
Parkview hospitals are consistently ranked among the best in the state in Leapfrog Group’s
Hospital Safety Grades, ranked among the best hospitals by U.S. News and World Report, and
