Victor “Vic” Ireland

Victor "Vic" Ireland, also known as “captain” to his three siblings, aged 86, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born and raised with an unwavering spirit, Vic enjoyed his life immensely, surrounded by his beloved family.

Vic and his devoted wife, Ethel, shared an extraordinary journey of 68 years of marriage. Their love story began in the parking lot of Grace Church when Vic was just 16 and Ethel 15. From that serendipitous meeting, they fell deeply in love and raised five wonderful children: Victor Ireland Jr.(deceased), Stacey (Ireland) Walter, Doug Ireland, Jennifer (Ireland) Potee, and Janelle (Ireland) Olds. Their family grew up attending Grace Church, where faith and community played a significant role in their lives.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Vic was a lifelong fan of the Marion Giants. He and Ethel could be found in their favorite seats on the lower level at every home game for decades, cheering on their team with unwavering support. Their love for football extended to Purdue games, where they created countless cherished memories with friends, children, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, especially during the thrilling Purdue/IU games that highlighted their house divided.

Vic had a deep love for the outdoors. He was never without his trusty pocketknife, usually a Swiss Army type that could transform into any tool needed. Fishing was his favorite pastime, and he particularly enjoyed ice fishing. He embraced the cold winters, eagerly finding a frozen pond, drilling a hole, and dropping his line. His adventurous spirit even led him to tie a rope around his waist and a tree on warmer winter days when the ice began to melt, resulting in a few memorable plunges.

In his younger years, Vic was actively involved with the civic theater, often starring in plays, participating in the Easter Pageant, singing in the church choir, and teaching Bible study and Sunday school for decades. He and Ethel established many beloved traditions with their children, which continued for generations. From the unforgettable bonfire family parties filled with football, laughter, and late-night camaraderie, to the lively pool parties at his brother Frank's house, Vic's love for family and fun was evident in every gathering.

Vic was a loving father who taught his children the values of laughter, humility, kindness, and generosity. His legacy is one of good nature, humor, and a heart open to all. A prankster at heart, Vic delighted in telling jokes and kept his grandchildren entertained with his clever tricks, leaving them in awe and laughter.

Vic's memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Ethel, their four surviving children, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth, humor, and kindness will live on in his family and friends' hearts, reminding us to embrace life with joy and compassion.

Rest in peace, Vic. Your legacy of love and laughter will never be forgotten.
