
Lawrence William “Bill” Yocum, 88, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 6:00 pm, Thursday, July 9, 2026, at his home in Wabash, surrounded by his family. Bill was born on August 8, 1937, in Wabash, Indiana, to Ralph and Opal Mae (Higgley) Yocum.
Bill was a 1955 graduate of Noble High School in Wabash County. He married Carol Hendry at the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ on August 16, 1958, and together they shared nearly 68 years of marriage. He was a member of the Roann Christian Church. Bill was a retired farmer and raised popcorn for over 60 years. He enjoyed gardening and shared his produce with family and friends, loved college basketball, especially IU and Purdue, but farming was his life.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Yocum of Wabash; four daughters, Cheri (Jeff) Slee of Roann, Indiana, Tracy (Scott) Azbell of Wabash, Roberta (Steve) Miller of Urbana, and Carla (Ken) Krom of Liberty, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Michael (Kacy) Slee, Kelli (Wesley) Penrod, Bryan (Amanda) Azbell, Houston (Alicia) Miller, Bethany (Justin) Lawyer, Wyatt (Alisha) Krom, Heath (Brittany) Miller, Cassidy (Codey) Redd, Haylie Miller, and Morgan (Ella) Krom, and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Joshua Krom; great grandsons, Beckett and Gabriel Azbell; two brothers, Chuck Yocum and Ralph L. “Jake” Yocum; and his sister, Wilma Bever.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Chris Ponchot and Wyatt Krom officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery. Friends may call 3-7 pm Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Roann Christian Church.
