Joan L. “Jodie” Wood

Joan L. “Jodie” Wood, 96, of Gas City, passed away at 2:25 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at her residence surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on May 16, 1930, to Glenn and Ruth (Myers) Barton. She married James Wood on January 4, 1980 and he preceded her in death in 2003.

Jodie retired in 1990 after more than 20 years of employment with RCA. She found great joy in tending to her flowers, playing cards, and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her and brought immense happiness to her life. She loved the Christmas season and eagerly anticipated decorating each year, making the holidays a special time for those she loved.

Jodie is survived by her daughters, Carole Cain of Gas City and Barbara (Ed) Sexton of Apache Junction, Arizona; grandchildren, Gabriel (Jenn) Atkinson of Bellevue, Nebraska, Jeremy Hutcheson of Gas City, Erin Martin of Fairmount, Jennifer Swanner of Gas City, Jason (Shannon) Hutcheson of Jonesboro, Jayme (David) Miller of Gas City, Bryan (Susan) Sexton of Arizona, Delinda (Austin Robinson) Atkinson of Reno, Nevada, and Laci (Cory) Charette of Gas City; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Anita Smith and Glenda Nelson; and special friends, Shirley Ball and Mary Lou Atkinson; and special aunt, Rosa Roby.

Jodie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Wood; her parents, Glenn Barton and Ruth (Myers) Mosher; stepmother, Mildred Barton; daughter, JoLynne and son-in-law, David Atkinson; and sisters, Beverly Kinch, Norma Stafford, and Marilyn Torchia.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main Street, Gas City, Indiana.

Immediately following visitation, a service celebrating Jodie’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Marion.
