Linda Rae (Dare) Caron, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9th, in her home. Her passing leaves a space in the hearts of her family that can never be filled.
She was born in Johnston City, IL to Ray and Bessie Dare. She grew up very involved in the church and kept her strong faith in God throughout her life. She still kept in touch often with her lifelong best friend, Nancy Williams.
She married Louie Caron in 1963 and moved to Marion, IN. They were happily married for almost 50 years.
Her family was everything to her and she treasured every second we spent together. We always had our weekly family dinners and all the holiday traditions that she loved. Including corn at Thanksgiving that always got left in the microwave. Finn, Trace, and Shep loved spending many days putting together puzzles with her and Isla loved getting her popsicle from Moe. The love and caring she gave to her family will be what we remember most about her.
She dedicated over 30 years of her life to serving others as a Registered Nurse with the VA. Through her years of service, she provided care and compassion to the veterans who had served our country. Her dedication to nursing reflected her commitment to helping others, and she retired after more than three decades. She built several lasting friendships through the years at the VA that meant a lot to her, including Marcia Atkinson.
She is survived by daughter, Cynthia Lynn Catt; her grandchildren that she loved so much, Keira (Robert) Shull, Seira (Phillip) Dailey and Ian Catt. Her pride and joy, as soon as they came into this world, were her great-grandchildren, Finnick, Trace, Shepherd, and Isla.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louie, that she missed so much. Also, her parents, Ray & Bessie Dare, siblings, Virginia Howerton and Bennie Dare.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
A funeral service to honor Linda’s life will immediately follow at 4:00 at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank everyone who has offered love, support, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Until we see you again, mom, grandma, and Moe, we all love you!
