Making college more accessible, affordable

INDIANAPOLIS- Indiana is working to make higher education more affordable, expand opportunities and help Hoosier students prepare for success after high school.

The 2027-28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open, giving students access to millions of dollars in state aid, as well as more than $1 billion in federal aid, to help cover the cost of attending colleges, universities and vocational schools. Filing the FAFSA as early as possible increases your chances of receiving the full amount of eligible aid.

Since the General Assembly passed a law in 2023 requiring high school seniors, with opt-out provisions, to complete and submit the FAFSA, Indiana has seen a consistent increase in filings. This year the state exceeded its 60% filing goal for the second straight year.

Indiana is also taking steps to lower the cost of earning a degree and help students get a head start on college. In-state tuition at all public colleges and universities has been frozen for two consecutive years, and Indiana leads the nation in the percentage of high school students completing at least one college course before graduation.
